Centre for Clinical Trials Cologne

The Centre for Clinical Trials Cologne (ZKS Köln) is an institution of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne, and is responsible for the effective support of all clinical study processes and for the further development of the quality of patient-oriented clinical research in the academic field. It helps doctors at the University Hospital of Cologne, other hospitals, study groups and professional societies to conceive and implement clinical studies. For the pharmaceutical industry and contract research organisations, the ZKS Köln is a clinic-oriented partner for medical research projects.

The services of ZKS Köln include:

  • consulting and services for the preparation and implementation of drug trials, non-drug therapy, and medical products as well as diagnosis and prognosis studies,
  • training and further education of study staff (courses for clinical investigators, lead investigators and study assistants),
  • a clinical trial registry allowing the option to publish and manage studies in an individual web portal with a freely definable corporate identity,
  • paediatric and surgical modules as parts of national networks with a fully developed infrastructure and study-related expertise in these fields.

The ZKS Köln works according to the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as well as the valid regulative requirements (e.g. AMG, MPG, GCP-V), and thus guarantees high standards of quality. It is subsidised by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne.
